Day 11: God's Love made visible

Romans 5:6-8 6  For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 
7  For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— 
8  but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

It would be a mistake to think that God’s love began at Calvary. God’s love is as infinite in time as his glory and grace. God did not have to decide one day to choose to love. He is love.

1 John 4:8-10 8  Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 
9  This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. 
10  This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

What’s most clear is that God did not act on our behalf out of a sense of duty, or because he “had” to. He acted on our behalf out of Love. I read these words from an unknown author:

Jesus did not come to make
God’s love possible, but to
make God’s love visible.

Is God’s Love visible in us? Do we demonstrate to those who do not know Jesus a spirit of judgment, or a spirit of Love? His judgment has already occurred on the Cross. There God showed his love for us and his hatred of Sin.

John 3:16-17 16  "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 
17  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Today, let’s spend time "soaking" in God’s love. His love is not fickle; it does not rise and fall with our failures. He knows us deeply and fully. Our efforts are not to prove we are worthy, for our worthiness does not consist of our efforts, but rather in His grace and love.

Betrayed by Failed Expectations

No one names their children Judas.  No other name is more recognized as anathema than his name.    It's hard to sort out what to do with Judas.  He walked with Jesus, learned from him, saw the miracles, knew what Jesus was up to early on.  Yet when it came down to it he betrayed Jesus. What's perhaps more amazing is that it doesn't surprise Jesus at all. John 13:18-32 (NIV) 18 "I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. Joy to the World - Help is On the Way

It’s the first day of Advent– while you prepare for Worship this morning at church take a minute to ask God to direct you through this season that you might be prepared to “receive your King”. In the first week of Advent we celebrate the PROMISE of His Coming. His promise is based on our need.
