It is Tuesday in this final week of Advent. I was struck yesterday by how often I ran across music that was singing the praises of God's incarnation. Music plays while shopping. It is in the background in stores, and even on television. On the finale of a TV music show, one artist sang "O Holy Night" - beautifully, I might add. No matter how many times modern man tries to avoid it, God's glory and praise is constantly there in our lives.
Luke 2:8-14
8 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear.
10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.”
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
The Shepherds were common laborers, insignificant to most. A drive in attendant at a MacDonald's, a janitor cleaning an office at night; a street sweeper driving his machine down the streets of the city. People, yes...but unknown to most and even worse - not cared about.
Yet it is to these insignificant common laborers that God comes to break the news of His Son's birth.
"Good news of great joy"
Are you feeling insignificant? Down? Unencouraged? Unnoticed? I ask you to realize that is precisely the people whom God came to share his good news with. With God there are no insignificant people...just people created in His image who need to know "Good News of Great Joy".
If you stop, you might hear the sounds of the heavenly host praising God. They sing to the Glory of God, and announce peace to those who would receive Him.
Can we do that today? Can we sing to His praise? Hum the tunes, listen to the music, hear it in your head and sing along - and Glory in our God and Savior for what he has done.
Peace
