Day 30 - The Humble Soul

I believe in the Soul.

I believe God has given to every one of us a part of our being that is not the physical, but incorporates so many parts of Who we really are.

We have qualities of being we call “our will, our desires, our heart, our passions, our hopes, our minds, thoughts and dreams”… all are corporate qualities of our Soul.

I believe in Soul care.

We sometimes are so aware of our physical nature, but can be quite oblivious to what is going on inside of our souls.

The Pilgrim’s walk realizes that the journey of the Soul is as important as the journey of the body.

Psalm 131:1-3 1
O LORD, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes are not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me.
2  But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; like a weaned child is my soul within me.
3  O Israel, hope in the LORD from this time forth and forevermore.

A Calm, Quiet Soul.  Sounds good, doesn’t it?

It’s Spring here and everyday I look outside for signs of re-emerging life.  The grass is turning from winter brown to green.  The trees begin to show their buds.  The flowers peak with their green shoots through the top of the soul.  I’m itching to get outside and trim the bushes and trees, and even mow the lawn!

Last year I planted two small trees.  I am looking at them each day for signs of new buds and the flowers that will come with them.  And as much as it might be difficult to do, I will approach those trees with the need for pruning to create more growth.

Growth is good.  Growth is part of life and we love to see it.

The Psalmist recognizes that life is full of the need to do things to maintain growth.

He says we need to prune away Pride and the Independency that leads to stilted growth.
Jesus said so to:  John 15:1-2
1  “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser.
2  Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.

Jesus invites us to come to Him and Stay there.  Abide…Stay…Trust…Wait…Be Patient and know that life is not made up of your ambitions and your drive.  We have made a society of our drive and ambitions.  But that is not what makes life full and makes it worth living.

Our lives are worth living when we take the time to nurture our Souls.  We take time to think, pray, meditate on how, why, where, who, when.

Our lives are worth living when they are lived with God as our Hope, and our faith planted firmly in His life for us.

Quiet confidence…inner strength of faith…

Peace

Hands Full of Parcels

"A Man whose hands are full of parcels can't receive a gift."   - C. S. Lewis Romans 4:13-16 (ESV) 13  For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith. 14  For if it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith is null and the promise is void. 15  For the law brings wrath, but where there is no law there is no transgression. 16  That is why it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his offspring—not only to the adherent of the law but also to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all... The last four days have been best described by the word "fatigue".  It's not an uncommon word in our vocabulary.  Listless, tired, sore.  1300 miles of car travel, being sick, not sleeping well, and eating poorly all add up to the word - fatigue.   Someone onc...

The Tabernacle

The readings today are Exodus 36, 37, 38 I wanted to post some pictures of what these various parts of the Tabernacle looked like. It's not the easiest read in the world, but if you persevere through it, you can get a picture of all the different pieces that made up the tabernacle. It is a replica of the various parts of the Tabernacle in the Wilderness: First thing in the chapter listed is the outside of the tabernacle which consisted of curtains tied together and put on cross bars through loops. Next at the beginning of 37 is the table and lampstand: Also, the altar of incense: And, the altar for the burnt offering which was in the courtyard: Finally, the courtyard which made it all come together: Hope that helps with what it might have all looked like. Most importantly, this was their "place" of worship they were building. I hope you have a great day of worship. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPad

The difference between defending and explaining

The news of recent has focused the suffering of Christians in the middle east who have been martyred for their faith in Christ at the hands of Islamic Terrorists. Through the centuries many Christians have lost their lives as a result of their faith. For us, who live in America, there is little chance that we would have this happen here - but it's entirely possibly that terrorism will strike out at Christians sometime.  But, for many Christians in the western world - especially here in the U.S. - being a Christians who believes God's word there is a form of persecution that is defined by words like "ostracized", "passed over", "ridiculed", and more. What do we do in the face of opposition to faith? When the Apostle Peter writes to the early believers who are undergoing great pressure, even persecution for their faith in Jesus, he gives them this charge. 1 Peter 3:8-18 8  Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly lov...
