Day 27 - Blessed Living, Why Not You?

Nothing can more describe the joy of being a Christian than the word “blessed”.  To be blessed means to have God on your side…to have a life that is aware of the big picture – the fullness of God’s presence and favor in everyday life.

The Psalmist walks towards the city for celebration and worship, and his thoughts are full of all that God has done for him.  He describes it as “blessed”.

Psalm 128:1-6
1 Blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, who walks in his ways!
2  You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you.
3  Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table.
4  Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the LORD.
5  The LORD bless you from Zion! May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life!
6  May you see your children’s children! Peace be upon Israel!

Three times he says it… “blessed”

o   To fear the Lord
o   To work with God’s favor
o   To have the joy of your spouse and family (and keep going with Grandchildren).

Enjoy it… It is a blessed life.

This is the good life that has nothing to do with expensive homes, or cars, or toys, or vacations and clothing.  Blessed living doesn’t have to do with material goods.  Blessed living isn’t based on bank accounts, or mutual funds.  Blessed living isn’t even based on never facing difficulties or pain.

To be blessed is to realize the fullness of life.

To be blessed is to be aware of the partnership of God alongside of living.

To be blessed is to know that God has gifted our life and life is not just a matter of good luck, or climbing your way to the top.

A look through the scriptures makes it clear that God is for us – If we will let him.

Genesis 12:2  And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing.

Ephesians 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,

And seven times in the last book of the Bible we are called blessed culminating in the final blessing:

Revelation 22:14  Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life and that they may enter the city by the gates.

This blessed life is fruitful.

There is fruit in labor.

There is fruit in relationship with your spouse and also your children.

The life of the blessed is comprehensive and complete…and therefore here’s the question:  WHY NOT YOU?

Today, many will awaken with a fresh sense of inspiration. Why not you?

Today, many will open their eyes to the beauty that surrounds them. Why not you?

Today, many will choose to leave the ghost of yesterday behind and seize the immeasurable power of today. Why not you?

Today, many will break through the barriers of the past by looking at the blessings of the present. Why not you?

Today, for many the burden of self doubt and insecurity will be lifted by the security and confidence of empowerment. Why not you?

Today, many will rise above their believed limitations and make contact with their powerful innate strength. Why not you?

Today, many will choose to live in such a manner that they will be a positive role model for their children. Why not you?

Today, many will choose to free themselves from the personal imprisonment of their bad habits. Why not you?

Today, many will choose to live free of conditions and rules governing their own happiness. Why not you?

Today, many will find abundance in simplicity. Why not you?

Today, many will be confronted by difficult moral choices and they will choose to do what is right instead of what is beneficial. Why not you?

Today, many will decide to no longer sit back with a victim mentality, but to take charge of their lives and make positive changes. Why not you?

Today, many will take the action necessary to make a difference. Why not you?

Today, many will make the commitment to be a better mother, father, son, daughter, student, teacher, worker, boss, brother, sister, & so much more. Why not you?

Today is a new day!

Many will seize this day.

Many will live it to the fullest.

Why not you?"

Hands Full of Parcels

"A Man whose hands are full of parcels can't receive a gift."   - C. S. Lewis Romans 4:13-16 (ESV) 13  For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith. 14  For if it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith is null and the promise is void. 15  For the law brings wrath, but where there is no law there is no transgression. 16  That is why it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his offspring—not only to the adherent of the law but also to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all... The last four days have been best described by the word "fatigue".  It's not an uncommon word in our vocabulary.  Listless, tired, sore.  1300 miles of car travel, being sick, not sleeping well, and eating poorly all add up to the word - fatigue.   Someone onc...

The Tabernacle

The readings today are Exodus 36, 37, 38 I wanted to post some pictures of what these various parts of the Tabernacle looked like. It's not the easiest read in the world, but if you persevere through it, you can get a picture of all the different pieces that made up the tabernacle. It is a replica of the various parts of the Tabernacle in the Wilderness: First thing in the chapter listed is the outside of the tabernacle which consisted of curtains tied together and put on cross bars through loops. Next at the beginning of 37 is the table and lampstand: Also, the altar of incense: And, the altar for the burnt offering which was in the courtyard: Finally, the courtyard which made it all come together: Hope that helps with what it might have all looked like. Most importantly, this was their "place" of worship they were building. I hope you have a great day of worship. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPad

The difference between defending and explaining

The news of recent has focused the suffering of Christians in the middle east who have been martyred for their faith in Christ at the hands of Islamic Terrorists. Through the centuries many Christians have lost their lives as a result of their faith. For us, who live in America, there is little chance that we would have this happen here - but it's entirely possibly that terrorism will strike out at Christians sometime.  But, for many Christians in the western world - especially here in the U.S. - being a Christians who believes God's word there is a form of persecution that is defined by words like "ostracized", "passed over", "ridiculed", and more. What do we do in the face of opposition to faith? When the Apostle Peter writes to the early believers who are undergoing great pressure, even persecution for their faith in Jesus, he gives them this charge. 1 Peter 3:8-18 8  Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly lov...
