What Does Scripture Say About Christ's Coming Again? Part 2

I began this on Tuesday, so go back and read Part 1 if you've not read it yet.  My main point in understanding the coming of Christ is that it must be tied to the Message of the coming of the Kingdom of God.  In fact, Jesus himself said in Matthew 24:14...

"And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come."

The reality is that the Kingdom of God is come in Christ's rule, authority, upon the earth and in the Church.  This is how I ended Part 1....

We must realize we are living RIGHT NOW as citizens of Christ’s Kingdom.

Colossians 1:13 (ESV)
13  He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,

Revelation 1:5-7 (ESV)
5  … Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood
6  and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

That is the Right Now aspects…and then John quickly adds…
7  Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.

OK, now Part 2:
The Kingdom Is Our Future Hope of Jesus’ Coming Again
Peter wrote two letters at the end of the New Testament…
In his second letter he begins by talking about faith, virtue, knowledge, self-control, godliness and love as qualities to be developed.  THEN

2 Peter 1:10-11 (ESV)
10  Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.
11  For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Here’s the Key, the Kingdom is NOW upon the earth, and we enter into it through faith in Christ Jesus – this is what it means to be born again by the Spirit…but that is just a precursor to our entering someday into the Kingdom in Heaven… SO, it’s the NOW and The NOT YET.

1 Peter 1:3-5 (ESV)
3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4  to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,
5  who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

The Reality is that for us, there is a truth that we hold onto…Jesus will come back and take us to himself.  Whether that is in our death, or at a time in the future when that occurs.
Two Basic Questions For Us To Ask:
1.
Do We Have an Assurance of Jesus’ coming again?

2 Peter 3:4 (ESV)
4  They will say, “Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things are continuing as they were from the beginning of creation.”

John 14:3 (ESV)
3  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also.

John 17:24 (ESV)
24  Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world.

Acts 1:6-11 (ESV)
6  So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?”
7  He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority.
8  But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
9  And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.
10  And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes,
11  and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”

The scripture is clear… “yes, I believe the word…I don’t know when, but I do know He will”.

Not knowing when isn’t the same as not expecting.

We've all seen videos of soldiers returning home and surprising their families... THey are amazing because the families knew their parent or spouse was coming sometime, but didn't know it was going to be that day!

Here's the point:  The fact that we don't know WHEN Jesus will return does not mean that we don't expect that He WILL return again.

Lastly, because of Grace not yet affrimed, we can understand in part Why Jesus has not returned Yet?

2 Peter 3:9-10 (ESV)
9  The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
10  But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed

Wednesday, Day 25: Christmas Eve - God Loves Us (So We Can Relax)

For Kids: There’s a lot of things we have to do each day. Get up from our sleep, Get dressed, Eat Breakfast, Get ready for School, Listen to the teacher, play with friends, eat our lunch, and after it’s all done, go back home. There’s time to play, Then we eat our supper… And eventually we have to get ready for bed and go to sleep! And then we do it all over again the next day. Sometimes there’s a vacation - like right now - and we get more time to play, to have fun and not have to do work at school. Our parents are good at helping us know what time it is and what we need to do next – even when we don’t want to move on to the next thing.  God is also good at helping us know what time it is, and what is next.  He doesn’t shout at us, or yell, or even scream…he does it peacefully, quietly.  He wants us to understand that he does it, most of all, for us. Christmas can be quite busy and there’s lots of things going on at once…but let us not forg

The Tabernacle

The readings today are Exodus 36, 37, 38 I wanted to post some pictures of what these various parts of the Tabernacle looked like. It's not the easiest read in the world, but if you persevere through it, you can get a picture of all the different pieces that made up the tabernacle. It is a replica of the various parts of the Tabernacle in the Wilderness: First thing in the chapter listed is the outside of the tabernacle which consisted of curtains tied together and put on cross bars through loops. Next at the beginning of 37 is the table and lampstand: Also, the altar of incense: And, the altar for the burnt offering which was in the courtyard: Finally, the courtyard which made it all come together: Hope that helps with what it might have all looked like. Most importantly, this was their "place" of worship they were building. I hope you have a great day of worship. - Posted using BlogPress from my iPad

The difference between defending and explaining

The news of recent has focused the suffering of Christians in the middle east who have been martyred for their faith in Christ at the hands of Islamic Terrorists. Through the centuries many Christians have lost their lives as a result of their faith. For us, who live in America, there is little chance that we would have this happen here - but it's entirely possibly that terrorism will strike out at Christians sometime.  But, for many Christians in the western world - especially here in the U.S. - being a Christians who believes God's word there is a form of persecution that is defined by words like "ostracized", "passed over", "ridiculed", and more. What do we do in the face of opposition to faith? When the Apostle Peter writes to the early believers who are undergoing great pressure, even persecution for their faith in Jesus, he gives them this charge. 1 Peter 3:8-18 8  Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly lov
